SUMMARY
Under general direction of the CalCONNECT Reporting, Analytics, and Data Warehouse Team Lead, the Epidemiologist plans, develops, and conducts epidemiologic investigations and evaluations limited in scope and/or complexity to determine the effectiveness of system capabilities and disease control activities for conditions supported by the CalCONNECT system. The Epidemiologist collects, analyzes, and interprets statistical data and prepares epidemiologic reports. This position works to promote and protect the health and safety of Californians.
The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $119,000 annually depending on experience/qualifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists with planning, designing, and conducting analyses related to case investigation and contact tracing activities implemented within CalCONNECT.
Performs formal evaluation studies of CalCONNECT capabilities to guide programmatic workflows and future system enhancements.
Designs, implements, and maintains complex data sets.
Provides training, technical assistance, and consultative services regarding epidemiology and analysis of CalCONNECT data to system end users.
Develops policies and standard operating procedures for analysis of CalCONNECT data.
Prepare technical and non-technical summaries of work, scientific reports and manuscripts.
Performs various other duties in support of section operations.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
Master’s degree in public health or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
At least two (2) years of relevant work experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field
Experience conducting research on epidemiology of infectious diseases
Experience with data visualization (e.g., Tableau) is preferred
Experience with Geographic Information Systems (e.g., ArcGIS) is preferred
Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and engaging in strategic partnerships
Strong understanding of design and implementation of research and epidemiologic studies
Microsoft Office Suite

Possess strong data management and analysis skills
Organizational skills demonstrating high attention to detail and the ability to organize multiple priorities * Strong interpersonal skills required for teamwork and interaction with people across CDC and with external partners
Knowledge of SAS, SPSS, STATA, or other statistical software
Proficiency in writing comprehensive statistical and analytical reports
Excellent written and oral communications
Ability to work effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment
