VirtueStaff is looking for a knowledgeable and strategic Fractional Procurement Specialist/Manager to oversee the procurement of production-related raw materials for our clients. This remote role will involve developing procurement strategies, negotiating with suppliers, and managing supply chain operations to ensure efficient production and optimal costs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in procurement management and an analytical mindset for making data-driven decisions.
Responsibilities
Planning and forecasting material needs using production planning system
Purchasing raw materials: steel (especially 26 gauge galvanized G90), aluminum, copper, zinc, galvanized wire (10 million pounds/year), corrugate for boxes, metal/plastic banding, lumber, stainless steel (316L)
Managing international suppliers (China, Vietnam)
Handling tariff exemption applications with Commerce Department
Obtaining and managing mill certifications for lot-to-lot traceability
Optimizing purchasing strategies (master coil vs sheet purchasing)
Managing vendor relationships across 4-5 steel suppliers
Using ERP system (Sage 300) and inventory management tools
Developing and managing vendor rating program using NetStock module
Setting up KPIs for vendor evaluation (pricing, availability, on-time delivery)
Generating RFQs and managing responses
Forecasting relationships between finished goods and raw materials
Requirements
Proven experience as a Procurement Specialist/Manager or in a similar role, particularly in raw materials procurement
Metal procurement experience, ideally experience with MRP (Material Resource Planning) for production materials
Strong knowledge of procurement processes, vendor management and rating systems
Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Suite
Ideally have experience using NetStock and Sage 300, but not required
Excellent negotiation and communication skills
Analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision-making
Ability to manage multiple suppliers and projects simultaneously
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting
