The Associate Director of Sales Performance & Administration supports Segment, Sales, and Client Management leaders achieve their objectives by aligning technology, data, and internal processes with strategic goals. This role oversees key systems and workflows that enable pipeline management, accurate data and reporting, and daily operations across teams. It also supports account managers retain clients and define retention-risk mitigation strategies through data and NPS insights. The role combines strategic consulting with hands-on execution, requiring solid project management, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to deliver technical and procedural solutions based on stakeholder needs.
It is a unique role within the Segment, without redundancy.
The ideal candidate blends strategic vision with tactical execution, acting with urgency and foresight to anticipate business needs. They collaborate closely with leaders to drive alignment and deliver effective solutions. With deep knowledge of sales, implementation, and account management-especially in large-group business-they bring expertise in tools like Solaris and Salesforce. Solid organizational and critical thinking skills enable them to turn strategy into action through practical project management. Experience in client-facing roles within UnitedHealthcare’s large group, particularly in Public Sector or Labor, is a plus. This role requires confident, accurate communication with stakeholders at all levels.
As the industry and our business evolve, the chosen candidate will also serve as a consultant to segment managers and leaders, providing thought leadership on ways to improve and expand the administrative and technical solutions that enable Segment success.

Primary Responsibilities:

Data and Insights

Consult with Sales and Account team leaders to understand data needs, advise on new/improved processes and tools that support their objectives, and lead approved system changes to deliver on those needs

Ensure Sales and Account leaders have access to the data they need to draw insights, develop sales/retention strategies, lead their teams, and inform their own leaders

Collaborate with other financial analysis and data reporting teams as needed to ensure consistency and integrity

Technology Administration and Strategy

Own and manage the systems and tools that the Sales and Account teams rely on to conduct their work, ensuring the tools function properly and meet business needs

Vendor relationship and management: Primary contact for and relationship owner with the vendor. Develop and approve SOWs, manage billing, invoices, and licenses, and serve as liaison to Mercury/Procurement

Identify potential technology solutions that proactively address evolving business needs. Present recommended technology strategies to senior leadership, then execute on approved changes

Anticipate budget needs and partner proactively with Segment CFO on any cost changes and budget impacts

Maintain a technology roadmap that maximizes ROI on committed funds

Keep abreast of new, relevant technologies, serve as a thought leader to the Segment by recommending changes to systems and related processes that poise us for improved effectiveness

Process definition, documentation, execution, and thought leadership

Leveraging knowledge of the business, critical thinking, and a growth mindset, anticipate future needs of the Segment and Sales/Account teams to identify in-scope tool and process recommendations that can improve productivity and drive business growth/retention

Identify and analyze new ideas and opportunities for benefits, risks, impacts to their and others’ workflows, and the business overall, often in partnership with matrix partners

Make well thought-out, quantified recommendations to leadership regarding technology, data, and process changes that will enhance growth/retention, improve efficiencies, and/or save money

Lead the full implementation including technical changes, and supporting related process changes within and outside the team

Timely day-to-day Execution

Contribute to optimizing chances of winning new business by expeditiously and accurately process incoming RFPs

Run and distribute routine reports on time

Support ad hoc requests from leadership and internal customers within required timeframes

Own and administer the Sales Operations team’s group mailbox, including triaging and processing incoming emails

Day-to-day technological troubleshooting for relevant tools and resources

This position does not currently have direct reports.

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of experience in the medical group insurance and/or health industry

3+ years of data synthesis and analysis experience

2+ years of system administration experience (preferably with Salesforce)

Proven solid Excel skills

Proven solid comfort level with technology

Proven solid written and verbal communication skills

Proven ability to see the bigger picture and then breaking it down to identify who and what is needed, by when, to execute successfully

Demonstrated success independently organizing, managing, and proactively controlling multiple responsibilities concurrently and prioritizing demands in a deadline-driven environment

Proven to be established history of effective collaboration and leading without authority

Proven ability to achieve results in a complex, matrix environment through influence and leadership

Preferred Qualifications:

2+ years of recent medical product knowledge and strategy

Experience with Salesforce, either as a user or administrator

Public Sector and Labor & Trust segment knowledge

Technology vendor management (internal/Optum IT and/or external vendor)

SharePoint administration

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
