About the Role
Our client is seeking a Senior Backend & Infrastructure Engineer to lead scalable backend development and cloud architecture. This role is ideal for an experienced Python engineer with FastAPI expertise, strong AWS knowledge, and a passion for building secure, high-performance systems that integrate seamlessly with modern DevOps practices.
Key Responsibilities
Backend Development: Build and maintain scalable FastAPI-based APIs, design efficient PostgreSQL schemas, and implement event-driven architectures with Redis, RabbitMQ, or Kafka.
Infrastructure: Manage AWS architectures (VPC, ECS/EKS, Route 53, Cloudflare) and support multi-region deployments for high availability.
Security & Compliance: Enforce HIPAA standards, manage IAM, implement secure authentication (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT), and apply Zero Trust principles.
DevOps & Automation: Develop CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), define IaC with Terraform/CloudFormation, and automate containerized workloads.
Monitoring & Reliability: Set up observability practices, log aggregation, distributed tracing, and multi-region monitoring with automated alerts.
Requirements
5+ years of combined experience in backend development and infrastructure management
Expert-level Python programming skills with 2+ years of FastAPI (or similar) production experience
Deep expertise in AWS services (VPC, EC2, IAM, RDS, S3, ALB, Route 53, API Gateway, ECS, EKS)
Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization and production experience with technologies like Aurora and RDS
Proficiency with message brokers (Redis, RabbitMQ, Kafka) and async task management
Hands-on experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, and container orchestration
Experience with CI/CD tools, particularly GitHub Actions
Strong knowledge of security best practices and HIPAA compliance requirements
Proven experience with multi-region cloud deployments and disaster recovery
Experience with observability tools and monitoring solutions
