We are looking for motivated individuals interested in a technical internship at LeapMind and interested in deep learning to join us as summer interns!
LeapMind implements deep learning in every object in the world to aim to realize a more convenient and prosperous society by developing “Efficiera” and related products which are a combination of an ultra-low power AI inference accelerator IP for companies designing ASIC and FPGA circuits ( )). Would you like to participate in the summer internship project we provide and become a part of delivering advanced technology to society?

Project Examples and Requirements

Please select your first to third choice from projects A through E.

There is a possibility that you may be selected for the second or third project depending on the selection process.

Those who are highly motivated and have a strong interest in deep learning and its applications

Both students and graduates are welcome.

Candidates expected to graduate in 2023 or 2024 are most welcome!

International students are also welcome to apply if holding a visa that allows working in Japan.

Coding skills using Python or C/C++

Communication skills in English or Japanese

A: Improve fully binary weight object detection model

LeapMind is developing an object detection (OD) model with extremely low bit quantization.Binary weight OD models are expected to significantly reduce computational cost and power consumption, but there is a significant gap between them and well-studied float models.Our team has developed an OD training library, and we hope that you will contribute to this library and help us to overwhelmingly improve the accuracy of our binary models.
Our team has several plans to improve the model (e.g., anchor matching algorithms, loss function design), but we would also gladly welcome your ideas proposed during the project.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science and information or related technical field.

Python basic, Machine Learning advanced.

General background knowledge of deep learning.

Experience creating python and deep learning frameworks

Experience reading papers in English.

Desirable Skills

Welcomed skills.

Experience and knowledge of computer vision.

B: Develop a new quantization technique

LeapMind is developing a Network Development Kit (NDK) which enables users to develop quantized deep learning models with ease. In this project, we plan to explore and introduce a new quantization technique to our framework.

Required Skills

Python basic、Machine Learning basic.

Experience in research and literature review

English-speaking (daily conversation level or higher).

Desirable Skills

General background knowledge of machine learning.

General background in deep learning.

Experienced in PyTorch or TensorFlow

C:Toward PyTorch2.0 on NDK

PyTorch has just released V2.0. In this project, we plan to introduce PyTorch2.0 to our Network Development Kit (NDK). The project is envisioned to provide a more rapid training environment for users.

Required Skills

Python basic、Machine Learning basic.

English-speaking (daily conversation level or higher)

Desirable Skills

General background knowledge of machine learning.

General background in deep learning.

Experienced in PyTorch or TensorFlow.

D:Training quantization model with JAX

Currently, JAX is gaining popularity in high-performance machine learning research. We plan to develop our quantized model with JAX and assess the improvement compared with our existing Network Development Kit (NDK).

Required Skills

Python basic、Machine Learning basic.

English-speaking (daily conversation level or higher)

Desirable Skills

General background knowledge of machine learning.

General background in deep learning.

Experienced in PyTorch or TensorFlow or JAX.

E:Research and development of improved anomaly detection model

Develop an anomaly detection model that can detect not only scratches and stains, which have been the target of conventional detection, but also advanced anomalies such as differences in the number, length, and quantity of products.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science and information or related technical field.

Python basic、Machine Learning basic.

Desirable Skills

Experience and knowledge on computer vision, deep learning, anomaly detection.

Working Conditions

Internship period: early August 2024 to late September 2025

Period and operating hours are negotiable.

Start and end dates to be determined based on each individual’s schedule.

Depending on the project applied for, we expect the project to last 1.5 to 2 months.

Working days: weekdays (working hours: 4 to 8 hours per day, excluding early morning and late night)

No problem if there are days and times when you cannot work due to schoolwork or vacations. Adjustments can be made by consulting with a mentor due to the flex system.

Hourly pay: 2,000 yen or more, to be determined based on the results of the screening process and the content of the internship (in past cases, 3,000 yen has been paid).

Monthly salary of 320,000 yen to 480,000 yen for a 5-day/8-hour work week

Meals for lunches and get-togethers with other interns and employees during the period will be covered! (Conducted online)

Transportation expenses: Actual expenses paid (up to a limit)

Location: Tokyo Headquarters (28-1 Maruyamacho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) (In principle, however, full remote work is required. However, there may be cases where you may be able to come to work depending on conditions)
