The Business Development Director plays an instrumental role in achieving membership goals through the development of prospect and consultant relationships and by positioning UHC Public Sector/Labor & Trust as a known and valued business partner. This is an operational role supporting Sales and the Segment and involves project-based work in addition to sales pipeline and RFP support. There is occasional direct external interaction, usually virtual.
Works in tandem with the Sales VP(s) in the development, implementation, ongoing enhancement and evolution of the Public Sector/Labor & Trust sales business planning and strategy. Directs the activities associated with executing on the strategy. In addition, in conjunction with the Sales VP, helps to favorably position UHC Public Sector/Labor & Trust by supporting a compelling value proposition that clearly articulates points of differentiation to consultants and prospects.
Performs all responsibilities with continuous spirit of collaboration and leveraging solid organizational skills, critical thinking, professional polish, impeccable attention to detail and proactive quality control, and leading without authority.
Primary Responsibilities:
General:

Support new business pipeline and RFP process through internal and external relationships, attention to detail and operational excellence, and a growth mindset

Lead and execute projects to support Segment strategy and functioning leveraging technical and functional skills, critical thinking, common-sense project management, and solid communications

Collaborate actively within the Business Development team, Sales Operations and Public/Labor segment as a whole, and with internal partners to drive ongoing excellence, growth, and efficiency

Specific:
Support new business pipeline and RFP process (average 70%)

Partner and collaborate with Sales VPs to:

Develop and execute pipeline strategy

Assist in the development of market sales plans

Develop pre-RFP strategy for key prospects in the applicable markets

Work with Salesforce Administrator to maintain data integrity in CRM tool (Salesforce) as appropriate

Develop cover letter and/or executive summary for the RFP response

Prepare Sales team and internal partners for finalist meetings including researching and cascading information on the client, getting presentation materials together, identifying subject matter expert participants, and confirmation of scheduling

Independently navigate the sales process

Shepherd RFPs for prospective clients and high priority renewing clients through the organization including:

Involving appropriate parties

Encouraging support for custom or creative solutions where appropriate

Advocating for optimal product and pricing

Ensuring quality of responses

Reviewing network analysis results

Working to resolve issues

Apply knowledge of available products, programs, and capabilities in proposal strategy

Create effective and meaningful communications

Gathering data on follow up questions and provide information to consultants and clients following finalist presentations

Act as backup for Sales VPs when not available

Answer questions from clients, prospects, and consultants

Be knowledgeable about the status of issues related to potential customers

Seek quick resolution and answers

Lead and execute projects that support Segment strategy and functioning upon request (avg 30%)

Research and understand market opportunities for Public Sector/Labor & Trust

Gather intelligence, data and research to effectively identify viable prospects and competitor positioning

Collaborate actively within the Business Development team, Sales Operations as a whole, and with internal partners to drive ongoing excellence, growth, and efficiency (ongoing)

Execute work autonomously while maintaining transparency and collaboration with other BDDs, workload balancing and supporting one another

Establish trust and presence within the segment and with partner teams

Collaborate with internal business partners to improve operational efficiency and ensure best practices

Develop collegial relationships with internal matrix partners to maximize productivity of resources, improve quality of output, and evolve tools and products to ensure that best in class is delivered to the marketplace

Required Qualifications:

7+ years of experience in the medical group insurance and/or health industry

5+ years sales support experience

2+ years recent medical product knowledge and strategy

Solid Microsoft Office Suite skills

Demonstrated success organizing, managing, and proactively controlling multiple responsibilities concurrently and prioritizing demands in a deadline-driven environment

Demonstrated success supporting or creating accurate, impeccable external-facing deliverables

Proven success building and managing direct external relationships with brokers, consultants, and/or clients

Proven established history of effective collaboration and leading without authority

Proven ability to achieve results in a complex, matrix environment through influence and leadership

Proven solid written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

2+ years of experience with Request for Proposal (RFP) and proposal development process

Experience working with the Public Sector/Labor & Trust business and/or marketplace

Experience with Ancillary services sales support: Dental, Vision, Financial Protection, etc.

Solaris user experience

Solid understanding of UnitedHealthcare commercial products and programs, across multiple platforms

Solid understanding of insurance sales process

Proven solid history of quickly building relationships, gaining credibility and partnering with business leaders

Proven excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills

Proven self-directed

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
