VACANCY Key Responsibilities Community Engagement
Build and sustain strong relationships with existing community participants, including editors, contributors, and volunteers, to encourage active involvement and cooperation1.
Serve as the main liaison for community members, handling questions, resolving concerns, and offering necessary assistance1.
Design and execute initiatives to expand and energize the community, with a particular emphasis on promoting inclusivity and diverse participation1.
Content and Project Assistance
Assist with community-led projects aimed at enhancing African-related content across Wikimedia platforms, especially that of Botswana1.
Plan and manage both online and in-person events, such as edit-a-thons, training programs, and networking meetups1.
Contribute to the creation of instructional materials and tools to support both new and experienced members1.
Communication and Outreach
Produce and share newsletters, diff articles, announcements, and other communication materials to keep the community updated on major projects, events, and opportunities1.
Champion the representation and engagement of Batswana people and voices within the broader Wikimedia movement1.
Work in partnership with other Wikimedia chapters, NGOs, and aligned organizations to coordinate efforts and amplify community impact1.
Travel as required to support outreach activities across communities1.
Support in recruitment of Wiki Fan club ambassadors1.
Design communication materials1.
Monitoring and Reporting
Track community conversations to identify trends and gather insights into the overall health and activity of the group1.
Gather and analyze member feedback to uncover areas needing enhancement1.
Provide regular updates to senior management and stakeholders on community initiatives, performance metrics, and milestones1.
Publish Wikimedia Botswana annual reports on Africa Wikimedians mailing list1.
Conflict Management and Moderation
Uphold a respectful and welcoming community environment by ensuring compliance with the organization’s code of conduct and Wikimedia Foundation’s Friendly Space policy1.
Address internal disputes or challenges in a diplomatic and solution-focused manner1.
Training and Capacity Building
Support and guide new community members, particularly those new to Wikimedia or unfamiliar with the organization’s work1.
Support in organizing educational sessions, including webinars and workshops, covering topics like editing on Wikimedia, managing projects, and fostering community growth1.
Qualifications
Bachelor degree in I.T, Social Sciences, or Management1.
Experience
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in community management, preferably in the nonprofit, digital, or open knowledge sectors (Experience working within the Wikimedia movement is a plus)1.
Proven track record of building and sustaining online communities1.
Skills and Knowledge
Strong understanding of the Wikimedia Foundation’s goals, policies, and the broader open knowledge ecosystem1.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse audiences1.
Strong organizational and project management skills1.
Proficiency in social media platforms and community management tools (e.g., Discourse, Slack, or similar platforms)1.
Proficient in Setswana and English languages1.
