Hewlett Packard Enterprise

Developer Support Engineer – (Remote)

Job Description:

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is the global edge-to-cloud company advancing the way people live and work. We help companies connect, protect, analyze, and act on their data and applications wherever they live, from edge to cloud, so they can turn insights into outcomes at the speed required to thrive in today’s complex world. Our culture thrives on finding new and better ways to accelerate what’s next. We know diverse backgrounds are valued and succeed here. We have the flexibility to manage our work and personal needs. We make bold moves, together, and are a force for good. If you are looking to stretch and grow your career our culture will embrace you. Open up opportunities with HPE.

At HPC, MCS and Hewlett Packard Labs, we focus on cutting edge, high-performance, high-scale customer solutions serving a wide range of industries and end-users. Our organization includes High Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Mission Critical Solutions (MCS), Edgeline, Moonshot and Hewlett Packard Labs.

Deep learning has enormous promise but developing deep learning models at scale remains extremely complex, time-consuming, and expensive. At Determined AI, part of Hewlett Packard Enterprise, we are working to change that: our revolutionary open-source deep learning training platform enables deep learning engineers to train better models in less time, to seamlessly share GPU clusters, and to collaborate more effectively.

Our Developer Support Engineers work with our customers every day. They are the main interface between customers and our engineering organization. In this role, you will take on challenging issues that our customers face, working together with other engineers towards a resolution.

As a Developer Support Engineer, you can shape our customers’ experiences with our products, as well as help define our support processes. You should be comfortable where systems, deep learning, customers, and engineering intersect.

Min. 5 years of working experience.

Strong skills in at least one scripting/programming language (preferably Python)

Very comfortable with Unix/Linux systems

Able to dive into code, handle customer escalations, and drive to resolution in a timely manner

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on documentation

Demonstrable focus on the customer, including the ability to see past individual break/fix incidents to understand the customer’s setup and requirements, and the ability to build relationships with customer engineers

Ability and desire to occasionally work in the Determined codebase to tackle bug fixes, supportability improvements, and features

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or similar

Experience with containerization technology (Docker, etc.)

Experience with relational databases

Experience writing or ingesting REST endpoints

Theoretical knowledge of machine learning is desired, but not required

Knowledge of at least one cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

Curiosity/interest in continuous learning to stay at the forefront of challenges that can be addressed through AI

Our Engineering Process:

We use two-week engineering sprints to strike the right balance between execution and evaluating priorities. We structure our collaboration around projects:

The project lead is an individual contributor directly responsible for the execution of the project, including planning the technical solution, coordinating work with other engineers, and communicating progress to stakeholders.

Engineering managers ensure project leads at all levels of their careers have the support and guidance they need to fulfill these responsibilities effectively.

All code is reviewed by members of the team, following a specific set of guidelines to reduce ambiguity and drive to shipping efficiently.
