Job Title: Inpatient Coding Educator / Remote / Select States
Location: Remote (IL, WI, IN, IA, FL)
Compensation: $75,000 to $100,000 (based on experience)

A nationally ranked academic health system is seeking an experienced Inpatient Coding Educator to support quality improvement and documentation accuracy across multiple hospital sites. This fully remote role focuses on coding education, audit review, mortality analysis, and partnership with clinical documentation teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with CDI, coding teams, and clinical staff on audit findings and documentation improvements

Conduct mortality and DRG reviews with a focus on quality outcomes

Educate clinicians and coders on best practices for documentation and compliance

Analyze coding and quality data; develop strategic action plans and educational materials

Support initiatives tied to quality rankings (Vizient, CMS, Leapfrog, etc.)

Prepare and deliver staff training and presentations on coding topics

Engage in advanced project work related to PSI, HAC, and quality metrics

Must-Haves:

5+ years of inpatient coding experience at an academic medical center or Level I Trauma hospital

Prior educator/auditor experience in a large hospital or health system

Deep understanding of complex clinical cases (trauma, spinal fusion, sepsis, etc.)

Experience with EPIC, 3M, and knowledge of Vizient tools

Active AHIMA credential (RHIA, RHIT, or CCS)

CDIP or CCDS certification required

Strong skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and data interpretation

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree (in progress considered); Master’s degree preferred

Experience in project management and quality analysis

Familiarity with CMS star ratings, Leapfrog, and USNWR quality metrics

Schedule:
Monday to Friday, flexible business hours. Some travel may be requested.
