Job Description:
The project aims to address the mental health and psychosocial needs of returnee populations in Kandahar through Mobile Health Teams (MHTs). The MHPSS counselor will provide psychological support, conduct mental health awareness sessions, and address psychosocial challenges faced by individuals and families.
Job Requirements:
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Psychosocial Support Services * Conduct individual and group counseling sessions for women, children, and families experiencing psychological distress.
Identify and manage mild to moderate mental health conditions, referring severe cases to specialized care.
Provide immediate support to individuals affected by trauma, violence, or displacement.
Community-Based Support
4. Conduct community awareness sessions on mental health, stress management, and coping strategies.
5. Work with community leaders and health workers to reduce stigma associated with mental health issues.
Screening and Referrals
6. Screen individuals for mental health and psychosocial issues using standardized tools.
7. Ensure timely referrals to specialized MHPSS services or health facilities as needed.
Documentation and Reporting
8. Maintain confidential records of all counseling sessions and activities.
9. Submit regular reports on MHPSS activities, challenges, and outcomes to the Team Leader.
3. Qualifications and Experience
Education: Degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work. Training in MHPSS or mental health programs is an asset.
Experience: At least 1 years of experience providing counseling or MHPSS services, especially in humanitarian settings.
Skills:
Strong counseling and active listening skills.
Ability to handle sensitive issues with confidentiality and cultural sensitivity.
Knowledge of mental health tools and frameworks, such as WHO mhGAP.
Languages: Fluency in Pashto and Dari; knowledge of English is an advantage.
4. Work Conditions for Both Roles
Location: Field-based with frequent travel to remote areas of Kandahar.
Hours: Flexibility to work extended hours or during emergencies as needed.
5. Contract Terms for Both Roles
Duration: 7 months (extendable based on performance and funding).
Compensation: Competitive and based on organizational salary scales.
