Job Description:
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Nutrition Coordinator is a key member of the Technical/Grants management team and will report to the Technical/Grants Manager. The Nutrition Coordinator will work in close coordination with project coordinators/managers, MIS/M&E staff, operational and procurement staff at national and provincial level and will be responsible to provide technical leadership and to monitor the nutrition program’s progress in achieving its objectives and set targets. The Nutrition coordinator will coordinate and conduct programmatic adjustments of nutrition projects to be responsive to the contextual needs and ensure program results. Nutrition coordinator will also lead implementation planning and progress assessment for demand supply and generation activities and provide strategic guidance on strengthening the private sector’s involvement to improve nutrition services. As being a member of AKF’s health department technical team, the nutrition coordinator is also expected to contribute to improving and strengthening of community development interventions and adolescent health as flagship programs for AKF at organization level.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the design, oversight, and monitoring of nutrition projects and activities at AKF health department level, including integration of systems’ thinking and multisectoral approaches.

Work closely with national and provincial coordinators, managers, project staff, partners, government entities, and other stakeholders to design and implement targeted strategies for the improved community participation in improving the nutritional status of mothers and children in targeted communities/provinces.

Serve as the technical lead on all Nutrition activities including contribution in program design and program development efforts at organization level.

Lead AKDN internally funded nutrition projects (including the Central Asia Stunting Initiative) in terms of planning, implementation, reporting, communication, compliance, monitoring and grant management.

Manage the overall relevant projects planning, reporting, supervision, compliance, technical and financial progress and achieving the project objectives and setting targets.

Lead the development of nutrition project work plans, ensuring that targets are met, and project outcomes are achieved.

Collaborate with other ongoing nutrition projects in Afghanistan to ensure effective coordination of the project activities.

Provide technical support in the development and dissemination of tools, strategies, materials, reports, papers, and intervention for nutrition activities/interventions.

Contribute detailed and accurate written inputs to fulfill project technical and financial reporting requirements.

Monitor and maintain updated nutrition projects/Grants tracker, projects summary protocols, instruments, data sets, manuals, and reports.

Contribute to improving and strengthening of community development interventions and adolescent health as flagship programs for AKF at organization level where necessary.

Conduct at least quarterly review of nutrition related projects/grants, provide feedback for improvement, and do follow up of remedial action plan implementation.

Develop and facilitate project annual planning exercise, ensure quality and timely submission of plans to the donors.

Develop, coordinate, and facilitate the active projects implementation Plans (Yearly Operation Plan) in close coordination with the project support unit, project coordinators, finance, operation, and logistic teams at national and provincial level.

Follow up regularly of yearly operation plans with the regions, tracking progress and provide feedback.

Conduct field visits to facilitate proper implementation of projects’ yearly operation plans and provide on the job training for field staff for better performance.

Conduct regular supervisory visits (at least on quarterly basis) from each of the targeted province/project and ensure timely, effective and quality implementation of the project and on the job training provided to the relevant project staff on better performance (allocate at least 30% of the time for field visits).

Develop, write, and edits technical briefs, reports, or other necessary documents to facilitate research, best practices, policies, and procedures regarding nutrition.

Conducts searches of published literature on evolving issues in assigned technical area.

Conduct analysis of program implementation to identify areas for improvement for nutrition programming and propose appropriate technical strategy and guidelines.

Prepare reports and papers summarizing project results and assist with publications, web pages, and presentations.

Ensure project implementation adheres to organization strategy and all other national and international approved documents/protocols in nutrition.

Assist the technical/grants Manager and other technical staff to conduct opinion leader research to gather additional input on how to strengthen multi-sectoral functioning of programming and services, including competencies and coordination that need strengthening, particularly at the provincial level.

Conduct training needs assessment from project staff at national and provincial level identify capacity building needs, development and implement training plans in coordination with training/HR department.

Support private sector water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and nutrition related product marketing.

Support targeted nutrition-related Behavior Change Communication (BCC) and capacity improvements.

Provide technical and managerial support to the AKDN agencies including AKHS on improved nutrition intervention at program area level.

Support the strategic integration of nutrition in all program areas aligned with AKF global guidelines and protocols, and relevant global practices.

Liaise with the donor and government officials as needed.

Participate in relevant coordination meetings/workshops to present projects/nutrition activities while ensuring coordination with other projects and assure highest quality of project implementation.

OCCASIONAL SIGNIFICANT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

From time to time the Nutrition coordinator will be required to take on additional duties and tasks, as need within AKF Health Department.

DECISION-MAKING & AUTHORITY

Nutrition related technical and managerial issues.

S/he should be part of the recruitment panel of nutrition staff.
