Background Information

ETNO Mining, a subsidiary of Akobo Minerals gold exploration and mining company focusing on projects along the Akobo River in southwestern Ethiopia. ETNO has ongoing exploration and mining development in the Gambela region, Dima Wereda.

The company currently start commissioning of its processing plant in its Segele Mining site,

The proposed ETNO underground project area of influence is within the Chamo Kebele, Dima Woreda Gambela Region of Ethiopia and an active exploration activity in other areas.

The Akobo Project has been divided into several prospects and Segele underground site is one of the projects currently started commissioning the processing plant.

There is a camp near by the mining site which accommodate the employees with accommodation, canteen and clinic facilities.

Position: Occupational Health and Safety Supervisor
Reporting to: ESG Manager
Type of the post: Site Based
Type of Employment: Permanent with completion of the probation habitation period.
Role Overview

As supervisor of Health and Safety at ETNO Mining, you will play a pivotal role in leading and advancing our Health & Safety Management System to support our goal of zero lives lost or harmed in our operations. Reporting directly to ESG Manager, this role offers the opportunity to lead within company’s safety culture and track record in health and safety performance. We are seeking an experienced and proactive leader who can drive continuous improvement and innovation in safety practices and to improve our safety culture.

Role Details:

Reporting to the ESG Manager, you will be responsible for leading in developing, implementing, maintaining and improving the operation of OHS systems and standards, both at the camp and Segele Gold Mining site.

Occupational Health and Safety, Crisis Management & Technical Training Strategy and Workplans

Prepare and disseminate quality health and safety information reports, bulletins to departments at site.

Facilitate site inductions, OHS meetings and site OHS presentations to employees.

Manage and maintain currency of relevant standards and operating procedures.

Lead and facilitate incident investigations, risk assessments and critical risk management processes

Contribute to maintaining site standards in accordance with ISO 45001.

Conduct audits and inspections within Mining, processing, and camp which regulatory compliance.

Continuously check that all departments are applying all health and safety standards and provide guidance.

Maintainting accident-free practices at our Segele gold mining site.

Prepare standards for site Chemical Management system and manage the application.

Conduct safety engagements with personnel both on the surface and underground mining.

Contribute to the continual improvement of safety systems to ensure that business requirements are being met and the systems are being fully utilized

In partnership with site leadership, develop work plan for Health and Safety, Crisis Management and Technical Training.

Development, Implementation and Improvement of Systems

Lead the work to continuously improve the process flows, management tools and internal controls to sustain the quality and cohesiveness of these systems

Monitor and review systems to determine if they are delivering effectively against their purpose and deliverables.

Expert on Industry Knowledge and Compliance

Accountable for maintaining compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and standards

Stay ahead of regulatory changes, identifying potential risks, and ensuring the company consistently meets or exceeds legal requirements.

Establish and develop relationships with external regulatory bodies and safety organizations.

Provide ongoing dissemination of key learnings and trends to leadership and departments at the company.

Reporting

Lead the development and improvement of quarterly Health and Safety, Crisis Management and Technical Training reports to ESG Manager that outline associated activities and impact on operations

Lead the investigation of and reporting on safety incidents, including accidents, near-misses, and hazards, to determine root causes and identify corrective actions.

Lead the ongoing collection, monitoring, analysis and reporting of leading and lagging health and safety KPIs to provide insight on OHS performance and opportunities

About You
Education

Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Professional certification/training in health and safety (e.g., ISO 450001) is highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in health and safety management, preferably within the mining sector.

Proven experience in developing and implementing health and safety systems, policies and standards in a complex operational environment.

Skills

Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards applicable to the mining industry both national and international.

Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and influence at all levels.

Superior analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on risk management and continuous improvement.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Ability to travel and stay on remote mining areas.
