Job Description
As a Mechanical Technician (Thermal Engine) at CAMTEL, you will be the guardian of the reliability of all our diesel engines, whether they equip our vehicles or our generators. You must possess in-depth expertise in diagnostics, preventive maintenance and complex repairs, both mechanical and electrical. Your ability to intervene quickly and efficiently, including in emergency situations in the field, will be essential for the continuity of our operations.
Main Functions
Maintenance and Diagnostics
Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines that equip the company’s vehicle fleet (cars, trucks, vans) as well as generators on all network sites
Use sophisticated diagnostic tools and techniques to precisely identify mechanical, electrical and electronic failures in diesel engines
Rigorously follow maintenance schedules and perform preventive tasks (oil changes, filter replacements, belt/hose inspections)
Specialized Repairs
Repair or replace defective engine components, including fuel injection systems, turbochargers, cooling systems, exhaust systems and critical electrical components
Ensure maintenance and troubleshooting of the entire diesel generator system, including engine, alternator, control panels, fuel supply systems and cooling systems
Diagnose and repair electrical problems specific to diesel engines and generators (wiring, sensors, control systems)
Auxiliary Systems
Maintain and repair hydraulic systems of vehicles or equipment operating with diesel engines, if applicable
Ensure proper operation of fuel storage, transfer and distribution systems for vehicles and generators (fuel filters, pumps, injectors)
Emergency Interventions
Respond quickly to emergency breakdowns of vehicles or generators at various sites, performing on-site repairs when possible
Travel to remote network sites according to operational needs
Management and Documentation
Maintain detailed records of maintenance performed, repairs completed, parts replaced and fuel consumption for all equipment
Contribute to inventory management of spare parts, lubricants and other consumables essential for diesel engine maintenance
Ensure proper disposal of used oils, filters and other waste in accordance with environmental regulations
Collaboration and Safety
Work closely with the Fleet Manager, Network Operations teams and site technicians
Strictly apply all safety regulations and procedures when working on engines and related systems
Communicate project progress to a wide range of contributors to general management
Academic Background
Minimum diploma of Baccalaureate level combined with any training in Automotive Mechanics or related field.
Required Skills and Experience
Specialized Technical Skills
Strong skills in diagnosing mechanical, electrical and electronic failures in diesel engines
Thorough knowledge of diesel engine operation, fuel systems, electrical systems and related components
Thorough knowledge of generator operation considered an important asset
Proficiency in using a wide range of hand and power tools
Ability to diagnose and repair basic electrical problems in diesel engines and generators
Physical and Practical Capabilities
Physical endurance to perform demanding tasks, work in various positions and lift heavy parts
Valid driver’s license, essential for travel to different sites
Adaptability and willingness to travel to various network sites, sometimes remote
General Skills
Ability to analyze problems and develop effective solutions
Strong commitment to safe work practices
Ability to communicate clearly about technical issues
Excellent organizational, priority management and teamwork skills
Perfect command of French and English considered an asset
Responsibilities
