Senior Claims Specialist
You will be the front-line expert who manages third-party moderate to high level severity, non-auto casualty claims. Types of claims may include auto, homeowner’s, business owner policies, general liability, and farm. This position will be remote for any candidates not local to an American National office.
What You’ll Do

Adjudicate all aspects of the claims handling process under minimal supervision

Conduct phone interviews/investigations to determine liability and damages, obtaining recorded statements when applicable

Review loss notices and complex policy forms to determine proper coverage

Establish and maintain proper reserves

Determine the appropriate method of inspection for loss

Discovery, discussion, and review of the facts and circumstances of the loss occurrence

Finalize liability determination for third-party losses, sending out required forms, and negotiating settlements with clients or legal representatives (Obtaining releases, court-approved settlements for minors, pre-suit mediations or arbitrations)

Draft professional correspondence regarding various aspects of the claim

Communicate and promote professional relationships with insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, and internal clients regarding the ongoing status of claims files

Ensure compliance of Unfair Claims Settlement Practices Act, insurance laws, and regulations in all states assigned

Review and recognize complex legal issues that require presentation to management, in-house counsel, defense counsel, and internal committee, when applicable

Read and interpret complex, multifaceted legal and medical documents, and update in an easy-to-understand format for the file, and for the internal committee while addressing excess exposures, umbrella claims, and reinsurance exposures

Assist in mentoring other claims representatives within the department

Complete ongoing continuing education to maintain active adjuster license(s)

What You’ll Need

Currently hold an active state adjuster license or obtain following date of hire (American National will incur all fees associated/No out of pocket expenses)

Four years’ multi-lines claims adjusting work experience

Six years’ + claims handling experience

Four year completed degree in related field (Criminal Justice, Insurance and Risk Management, Business, Communications)

Understanding of statutes, case laws, and policy contracts, desired

Must be an effective and organized multi-tasker

High attention to detail and follow-up

Must be comfortable managing difficult conversations with ease and confidence

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong negotiation skills

Ability to work independently

Passion to provide the highest level of customer service

Salary for this position can range from $55,000 for candidates who are minimally qualified through $88,000 for more highly qualified candidates. Candidates outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill and education.
