About Our Client
Our client is responsible for implementing Sustainability, carbon and climate initiatives within Africa. Their mission is to develop a sustainable plan of action, along with responsibility programs to maintain their status as a leader in sustainable forest management. Due to the expansion of business requirements and certification renewals, they are currently seeking a Sustainability Director to lead their team in Africa.
Job Description
Reporting to the Regional Head of Sustainability & Forestry, You will be required to carry out the below duties:
Strategic Leadership:

Develop and implement Sustainability standards with global sustainability frameworks and its full integration into business operations

Drive innovation in responsible forestry and corporate sustainability, strengthening the leadership through impact initiatives and enhanced stakeholder trust

Environmental and Climate Action:

Oversee carbon management strategies, including carbon sequestration projects, REDD+ initiatives, and climate adaptation programs, ensuring alignment with climate finance mechanisms.

Drive continuous reduction of the company’s environmental footprint, focusing on energy transition, emissions reductions, and sustainable resource management.

Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships:

Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with global organizations, NGOs, research institutions, to advance the organization’s sustainability agenda.

Engage with certification bodies to ensure compliance and continuous improvement in responsible forestry practices.

ESG Governance and Compliance:

Ensure the implementation of strong ESG governance across all operational sites, embedding sustainability at the core of business decision-making and

Responsible for ensuring compliance with certifications (FSC®, PEFC®) and regulatory frameworks in Africa

The Successful Applicant
You bring minimum 15 years of working experience as Sustainability Director, preferably from a Forestry or Timber related sector within Africa is mandatory
Experience working with FSC/PEFC certification processes in Africa is mandatory
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Ability to develop and maintain international partnerships with NGO’s and Sustainability committees
Knowledge of REDD+ projects is a bonus
Excellent fluency in French and English is required
Must be willing to relocate and work in an isolated site
